The company is hiring a Shipfitter (1st Class) to join its team.

Educational Qualification

  • Applicants may be required a High School Diploma or GED

Work Experience

  • Possess 3 years of experience in a shipyard or fabrication shop
  • 5+ years in a shipyard or fabrication shop (preferred)

Duties/Responsibilities

  • Perform tasks to lay out, fabricate, and assemble various metal structural parts of a ship such as plates, and bulkheads.
  • Must brace them within the hull of the ship and prepare them for welding.
  • Must be able to read, understand, and work from blueprints or templates and use scribe and hand tools.
  • Must comply with all safety procedures and guidelines, and comply with all company-issued policies, procedures, rules, and regulations.
  • Must also have excellent work ethic including excellent attendance, punctuality, and the desire to complete designated work in a timely fashion.

Skills/Knowledge/Abilities

  • Achieve 80% on the written ship fitter exam.
  • Must be able to tack weld using the SMAW process.
  • Ability to climb stairs, ladders, kneel, squat, walk, sit, or stoop. Full range of motion.
  • Must have correctable vision to 20/40.
  • Must have own tools, and be skilled in their use, including but not limited to 25-foot tape measure, 50-foot tape measure, plumb bob, square, adjustable square, bevel square, 18-inch level, 2-pound ball peen hammer, 5-pound sludge hammer, 12-inch adjustable wrench, weld shield, flashlight, and chalk line.
