Job Profile

The company is searching for a Structural Welder to join its team.

Education Level

  • High School Diploma or equivalent

Work Experience

  • 2 years of experience as a welder or a technical welding program

Duties/Responsibilities

  • Apply welding sequences that will prevent excessive shrinkage or distortion
  • Assist Welders and Fitters in cleaning, moving, holding, clamping, and preparing work pieces
  • Clean welds by grinding or brushing where required
  • Demonstrate an understanding of the proper use of hand tools, grinders, and welding equipment
  • Interpret drawings and welding symbols
  • Judge the proper setup for welding
  • Learn the Weld Map and Welding Procedure Specification requirements
  • Operate arc gouging equipment
  • Produce welds that are acceptable in strength and appearance in flat, horizontal, and vertical positions using gas-shielded flux core wire welding procedures
  • Required to work at elevated heights up to 75ft
  • Select the correct welding wire and adjust the welding machine to make the welds specified
  • Weld by arc method using gas shielded flux-cored wire, semi-automatic
  • Weld on carbon, alloy, or stainless-steel plate, sheet, shapes, castings, or other parts included in fabricated steel work
  • Additional duties and responsibilities may be assigned

Skills/Knowledge/Abilities

  • Knowledge of shop math (preferred)
  • Able to pass 2G, 3G, and 4G skill tests
  • Requirements may be obtained through on-the-job training

Work Environment

  • Exposed to extreme temperatures, noise, and heavy machinery
  • May work at heights or in confined spaces
  • Often works outdoors or in industrial settings like shipyards, construction sites, or factories
  • Requires wearing safety gear such as helmets, gloves, and goggles
  • Work can be physically demanding and involves long hours or shift work
