The company is looking for a Tool and Die Maker to join its team.
Educational Qualification
- Applicants may be required a High School Diploma
- Recognized Certificate of Qualification as Tool & Die Maker
Work Experience
- Possess a minimum of 3 to 5 years of experience required in the manufacturing of automotive tooling and dies, i.e. with inner skin panels such as the floor, roof, door, fender, and other automotive body panels or Hot Stamp tools
- Previous experience in manufacturing/tryout of draw dies
- HR and H&S Orientation, WHMIS, Crane Training, Forklift Training (as required), Die Setter Training, 5S, Emergency Procedures for Power Presses, Fire Extinguisher Training, ISO 9001 & ISO 14001 training as prescribed by QEMS (see EMS matrixes), Lockout training, Hot Stamp training as prescribed by QAS (see QAS matrixes), AODA, Workers Health and Safety Awareness in 4 steps, Fire extinguisher training
Duties/Responsibilities
- Ability to analyze parts by checking fixtures, setup laser cutting, and achieving laser First Off
- Design, build and maintain large automotive tooling dies and fixtures for automotive parts production, incl. specifically Hot Stamp prototype and production tooling.
- Maintain and operate lathe, manual milling machines, surface grinders, and hand grinders accurately and efficiently.
- Maintain records i.e. Tryout reports, Static and Dynamic Buyoff lists etc.
- Participate in all aspects of Tryout including FEA feedback, blank development, fixturing of parts, modifying oven settings, robot/press line setup, and debugging
- Participate in soft tool and die development as required.
- Provide continuous guidance to Tool and Die Apprentices as assigned.
- Responsible for applicable QEMS policies, procedures, and work instructions including 5S Audits and Equipment Safety Sheets
- Responsible to carry out duties for Health, Safety, and Environment in accordance with the HS&E Agreement for Employees – Addendum
- Troubleshoot and repair existing tools as required.
- Utilize blueprints or Smirt Die Design for correct detailing, layout, and setup.
- Welding and the ability to execute manual form/trim changes (an asset)
- Perform other reasonable duties as assigned.
Skills/Knowledge/Abilities
- Ability to complete all aspects of Tryout and Die to Build/Repair
- Ability to read/interpret blueprints and SMIRT designs accurately.
- Ability to work with 800-ton to 2,500-ton mechanical and hydraulic presses.
- Ability to work with lathe and manual milling machines as well as hand tools, discs, and hand grinders
- Good communication skills.
