Job Profile
The company is looking for a Tool/Die Technician who will repair and maintain dies, fixtures, and all other tooling in conformance to customer or company specifications per control plans.
Analyzes specifications, lays out metal stock, sets up and operates machine tools, and fits and assembles parts to make and repair dies, cutting tools, jigs, fixtures, gauges, and machinists’ hand tools.
Maintains a safe working environment by ensuring compliance with procedures and safety regulations.
Report to the Maintenance Manager.
Education Level
- Not mentioned, a High School Diploma (a plus)
Work Experience
- 5 years of experience as a Tool and Die Maker
- Experience with quality control analysis
- Extensive experience in metallurgical knowledge, understanding the properties of metals
- Extensive experience with metalworking tools, including drills, milling machines, grinders, and lathes
- Proven experience using measuring tools (Calipers, Micrometers, Scales, Height Gages).
- Autonomy, extensive experience working with engineers and machinists, and working with little supervision
License/Certification
- Journeyman Tool and Die Maker Certification, 2-year degree in a related field (highly preferred)
Duties/Responsibilities
- Assemble and disassemble tools and die parts supporting the production areas to guarantee that tools are repaired on time, to ensure continuous production, and increase plant productivity
- Comply with and promote all environmental, health, and safety programs, laws, and regulations
- Cutting and shaping blocks to specified dimensions. Grinding carbide, fitting and assembling parts to make, repair, or modify dies, jigs, and gauges using machine and hand tools
- Design jigs and templates as supports in the fabrication of parts
- Inspecting tools and dies for defects and performing repairs
- Operating Procedures for Die Repairs and keep detailed records of tool maintenance, repairs, and overs
- Reading and Interpreting Blueprints, design schematics, and CAD drawings
- Setting up and operating grinders, mills, lathes, drill presses, parts cleaning, basic ovens, band saws, and jib hoists
- Support our culture of sustained, continuous improvement programs with the Cornerstone Building Brands organization
- Support Tooling Efficiency Improvement and Scrap Reduction Projects. Follow Standard
- Visualizing and computing metal shapes and tolerances
- Performs other duties as assigned or necessary
Skills/Knowledge/Abilities
- Ability to lift heavy objects 50-100 lbs. and experience in handling carbide tooling
- Advanced troubleshooting and problem-solving skills by detecting potential problems before they happen
- Excellent attention to detail
- Excellent communication skills and working with teams
- In-depth knowledge of troubleshooting in die operation and die Assembly
- Microsoft Software (Office, Excel)
- Must be extremely strong on safety rules and regulations
- Solid knowledge of trigonometry and shop math
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and depth perception
Work Environment
- Must occasionally lift or move up to 50 pounds
- Frequently required to stand, walk, sit, climb, or balance, and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl
- Regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel, and reach with hands and arms
