Job Profile

The company (Steelcon Fabrication) is recruiting a Welder who will be responsible for welding the required steel as prescribed in the blueprint while maintaining the quality of the product and safe work practices.

Educational Qualification

  • Applicants should have a School Diploma; Grade 12, or equivalent
  • Welder Trade Certification or CWB certification (preferred)

Work Experience

  • Possess 3+ years of industrial experience, with flux core welding and overhead crane operation
  • Experience in structural steel fabrication is preferred
  • Experience in the structural fabrication environment is preferred

Duties/Responsibilities

  • Designing, assembling, and using jigs and fixtures to ensure efficient and accurate assembly.
  • Determining required equipment and welding method, applying knowledge of metallurgy, geometry, and welding techniques
  • Fabricating steel material by applying appropriate welding techniques in accordance with product specifications and production schedules
  • Inspecting and reporting major welds concerns and recommending solutions as necessary, ensuring product specifications are met
  • Interpreting blueprints and specifications to plan layout, assembly, and welding operations
  • Maintaining a safe, clean, and organized work environment
  • Monitoring, cleaning, troubleshooting, adjusting, and performing required routine maintenance to maintain uptime and equipment reliability and tolerances.
  • Performing needed cutting, forming, and welding using appropriate equipment, consumables, and hand tools.
  • Providing instructions to other personnel (e.g. material handler/labour) as required
  • Reading and interpreting blueprints for welding specifications i.e. weld symbols
  • Reading measuring instruments in both metric and imperial units
  • Verifying that material components and finished product meet specifications
  • Welding parts to form complete units or subunits, following drawings, layout specifications, and other verbal and written instructions and diagrams.
  • Contributing to team effort by performing other related tasks as needed
  • Complying with all safety protocols and procedures and adhering to all company practices, procedures, and codes of conduct, and participating in all Health and Safety training conducted by the company.

Skills/Knowledge/Abilities

  • Ability to understand welding symbols and diagrams, read blueprints, or other printed instructional material in the welding of products or parts
  • Aware of and comply with all relevant safety policies and procedures
  • Familiar with a variety of welder concepts, practices, and procedures
  • Must be thoroughly familiar with the setup and operation of welding machines and other equipment and metal fabrication equipment
  • Possesses strong attention to detail
  • Team player with good interpersonal skills, a work ethic, and a positive attitude.

Working Conditions

  • Must physically be able to lift materials up to 50 pounds.
  • Work assigned must be completed correctly and in a timely manner.
  • Work in a fast-paced environment while meeting all safety requirements.
