Job Profile

The company is searching for a Welder who will be responsible for the refurbishment and rebuilding of used track material including railroad frogs. New material welding will include plate work and other materials.

Also, perform other miscellaneous tasks, as assigned by his or her supervisor.

Educational Qualification

  • Applicants should have an Associate’s Degree or Equivalent from a 2-year College or Technical School (welding); or 2 years of related experience or training; or an equivalent combination of education and experience (required)

Work Experience

  • Possess a minimum of 2 years of experience in MIG and Stick welding
  • Experience with manganese steel (a plus)
  • Experience with MIG welding (highly preferred)
  • Experience with Manganese (a plus); as well as experience in grinding

Duties/Responsibilities

  • Assemble items as instructed by the floor supervisor
  • Ensure work is done safely and meets quality standards
  • Follow all company rules and policies
  • Follow all safety rules and quality standards
  • Follow, create, and help maintain Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS)
  • Keep work areas clean and organized and take proper care of all equipment and facilities.
  • Lift raw materials, final products, and items packed for shipment, manually (up to 60 pounds), or using a hoist
  • Operate machinery used in the production process or assist machine operators.
  • Prepare product for shipment
  • Provide a great level of attention to detail and focus on the given task.
  • Read and interpret blueprints or drawings to determine the specific welding requirements
  • Set up welding cells for serial production runs
  • Set up welding machines based on the job at hand or using a Welding Procedure Specification
  • Stick weld steel and manganese components based on the specifications of the blueprints or drawings
  • Work with team members to maximize productivity and efficiency
  • Uphold all OSHA standards applicable to the responsibilities above.

Skills/Knowledge/Abilities

  • Ability to follow instructions given both verbally and in written form
  • Ability to identify and measure material
  • Ability to lift heavy items up to 30 pounds consistently required.
  • Ability to produce quality products consistently
  • Knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs and uses
  • Knowledge of raw materials, production processes, quality control, costs, and other techniques for maximizing the effective manufacture and distribution of goods
  • Must be capable of operating a forklift and must be capable of operating an overhead crane.
  • Willingness to learn and work to the best of his/her abilities as well as a dependable work ethic
  • Ability to read blueprints, drawings, calipers, tape measures, and angle gauges
  • Ability to read and interpret documents furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule forms such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, quality manuals, and procedure manuals
  • Familiarity with the metric system
  • Ability to perform simple shop math, convert decimals to factional equivalents and fractions to decimal equivalents.
  • Must be reliable with a strong work ethic
  • Ability to stand continuously for long periods of time
  • Willing to work 40+ hours a week
