Job Profile

The company is looking for a Welder I who will fabricate, position, align, and fit parts of structural metal products.

Set up, operate, and tend machines to saw, cut, shear, slit, punch, crimp, notch, bend, or straighten metal material.

Lays out, fits, and welds materials used in the fabrication of components to assemble structural forms.

Education Level

Work Experience

  • At least 2 years of TIG aluminum welding experience is required, with the ability to qualify for ASME code welding.
  • 1 to 2 years of fabrication experience or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Must be able to set up and operate machinery, have good math skills, and ability to work from blueprints.

Duties/Responsibilities

  • Align and fit parts and workpieces according to specifications, using jacks, turn buckles, wedges, drift pins, pry bars, and hammers.
  • Assemble temporary equipment or structures.
  • Assembles completed components into final assemblies per drawings and spec sheets.
  • Bolts, clamps, and tack-weld parts to secured in position for welding.
  • Chips or grinds off excess weld, slag, or spatter.
  • Cut, clean, fit up, and tack-weld aluminum, stainless steel, and carbon steel parts together.
  • Design and construct templates, patterns, work aides, and fixtures, using hand tools.
  • Draw guide lines or markings on materials or workpieces using patterns or other references.
  • Examines the weld for bead size and other visual specifications.
  • Fabricates from sketches, blueprints, or instructions.
  • Hammer, chip, and grind workpieces to cut, bend, and straighten metal.
  • Inspect products and ensure proper assembly.
  • Lay out and examine metal stock, parts, or workpieces to be processed and prepare assembly to ensure that specifications are met.
  • Lays out, positions, aligns, and fits components together.
  • Lays out, positions, and tack-welds work pieces for fit-up.
  • Lift or move materials, workpieces, and finished products using cranes, forklifts, or other lifting equipment.
  • Locate and mark workpiece bending and cutting lines, allowing for stock thickness, machine and welding shrinkage, and other component specifications.
  • Measure dimensions of completed products and verify conformance of workpieces to specifications, using squares, rulers, and measuring tapes.
  • Mount attachments, materials, or tools onto production equipment.
  • Move parts into position, manually or with hoists or cranes.
  • Position or tighten braces, jacks, clamps, ropes, or bolt straps, or bolt parts in position for welding or riveting.
  • Position, align, fit, and weld parts to form complete units or subunits, following blueprints and layout specifications.
  • Read work orders or other instructions to determine product specifications or materials requirements.
  • Remove high spots and cut bevels, using hand files, portable grinders, and cutting torches.
  • Repairs/reworks products by dismantling, straightening, reshaping, and reassembling parts.
  • Selects equipment and plans layout, assembles and welds.
  • Set up and operate fabricating machines, such as brakes, rolls, shears, plasma cutters, grinders, punch presses, manual milling machine, radial arm drill press, plate rolling machine, manual lathe, to bend, cut, form, punch, drill, or otherwise form and assemble metal components.
  • Set up and utilize jigs, fixtures, welding torches, hand tools, and welding equipment.
  • Sets up equipment and welds parts, using arc, GTAW-ARC (TIG) welding, submerged arc, or other welding process used by the company.
  • Smooth metal surfaces or workpiece edges and fix taps, tubes, and valves.
  • Straighten warped or bent parts, shape or reshape metal workpieces to established specifications using hammers and small hand tools, sledges, hand torches, and straightening presses.
  • Study engineering drawings, blueprints, and other instructions to determine materials requirements, task sequences, and operational methods.
  • Uses hand and power tools to perform work.
  • Welds along vertical or overhead weld lines.
  • Other duties as assigned.

  • Must occasionally lift or move up to 50 pounds.
