Job Profile

The company is looking for a Welding Team Lead who will assist the Mid-size department supervisor(s) to ensure that employees on his/her assigned shift have the tools, equipment, and material they need to manufacture products per customer requests and Valmont specifications.

Responsible for facilitating daily pre-shift meetings and will assist in the training of new team members.

Education Level

  • Not indicated, yet a High School Diploma will be a plus

Work Experience

  • Minimum of 3+ years of welding knowledge

Duties/Responsibilities

  • Communicate daily work assignments, scan prints, and maintain schedules
  • Complete daily foreman’s report
  • Coordinate scheduling as needed to ensure necessary overlap assignments to cover vacancies
  • Coordinate work with other internal departments (small parts, large poles, paint, galvanizing, material handling, and maintenance)
  • Facilitate daily pre-shift meetings with all shift employees, including safety, daily workload review, and communication of other relevant information as needed
  • Identify employee performance problems, investigate, document, notify supervisor of results, and provide recommendations
  • Lead or serve on department task force teams as needed
  • Lead training of new employees
  • Maintain a safe work environment by ensuring that all employees use appropriate PPE and comply with all safety policies and procedures
  • Maintain accurate daily record keeping and documents as required
  • Track reject tags, follow up tags with employees, and assign rework to be completed
  • Use a forklift to move parts or tubes to keep the line flowing efficiently
  • Orders supplies as needed

Skills/Knowledge/Abilities

  • Ability to apply sound judgment and to work independently toward team and department goals
  • Ability to train others in the manufacture of products per shop drawings
  • Ability to use measuring instruments such as tape measure, heat stick method for determining temperature of plate material, weld gauges, tri-square, and inclinometer
  • Must be a person of passion and integrity who has the drive to excel and deliver exceptional results
  • Proficient in the use of common shop mathematics, and the ability to read and interpret complex prints and standard specifications
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook
  • Skill in keeping accurate records, inventory, inspecting finished products for quality, and strong attention to detail
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing to co-workers, supervisors, and employees from other departments
  • The ability to work overtime as needed
