Job Profile
The company is seeking a Welding Technician who will perform welding, technical support, welding process troubleshooting, welding process improvement, procedure, and code compliance by using welding skills, visual weld inspection experience, and experience using welding procedure specifications.
Education Level
- Requires a Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience and at least 3 years of prior relevant experience
- Welding-related associate degree (desired)
Work Experience
- 3-5 years FCAW, SAW, and SMAW welding experience
License/Certification
- AWS Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) or AWS Certified Welding Educator (CWE) – desired
Duties/Responsibilities
- As the welding subject matter expert, provide welding support to production welders, supervisors, and other plant personnel
- Assist in qualifying welding procedure specifications as required
- Conduct classroom training on welding safety, welding and cutting processes, visual weld acceptance criteria, welding symbols, drawings, etc.
- Evaluate, propose, and implement welding process improvements to increase welding efficiency and quality
- Maintain welder candidate training, testing, and qualification records
- Oversee the daily pole school operations
- Perform hands-on welder candidate training for the FCAW, SAW, SMAW, plasma/oxyfuel cutting, and air-carbon-arc gouging processes
- Perform hands-on, pole layout, and fit-up training
- Perform routine tasks such as maintaining welder continuity and welding equipment
- calibration, and flux oven logs
- Perform welding training on the shop floor and in a classroom setting as required
- Provide additional training (OJT) to production welders as required
- Troubleshoot welding technique and routine equipment issues
- Participate in welding improvement projects/other duties as required
- Participate in internal improvement teams/other duties as required
Skills/Knowledge/Abilities
- Able to read and comprehend welding symbols, welding procedure specifications, work instructions, drawings, bill of materials, etc.
- Possesses good written and oral communication skills
- Proficient in using various weld inspection tools such as amp, volt, wire feed, gas flow meters, fillet weld gages, undercut gages, etc.
- Working knowledge of AWS D1.1 welding procedure specification
- Working knowledge of weld filler materials and base materials
Work Environment
- Exposure to bright light and fumes
- Involves standing or bending for long periods
- May work indoors or outdoors
- Often work in hot, noisy environments
- Requires wearing safety gear
