Job Profile

The company is seeking a Pipefitter for maintenance and project work.

Lays out, fabricates, assembles, installs, and maintains piping and piping systems, fixtures, and equipment for steam, hot water, heating, cooling, lubricating, sprinkling, and industrial processing systems.

Education Level

Work Experience

  • 1-4 years of experience in the specified skill (depending on the mechanic level)

License/Certification

  • Hazard Communication orientation/test
  • OSHA-approved corrective eyewear (Z87)
  • Turner Industries Group, LLC indoctrination
  • Written pre-employment qualification test

Duties/Responsibilities

  • Assembles and installs a variety of metal and non-metal pipe fittings, including those made of brass, copper, lead, glass, and plastic
  • Cuts, threads, and bends the pipe
  • Inspects work sites to determine the presence of obstructions and to ascertain that holes will not cause structural weakness
  • Installs and maintains refrigeration and air-conditioning systems, including compressors, pumps, meters, pneumatic and hydraulic controls, and piping
  • Joins pipe through threaded, caulked, soldered, brazed, fused, or cemented joints
  • Plan the sequence of installation to avoid obstructions and activities of other construction workers
  • Secures pipe to structure with clamps, brackets, and hangers
  • Selects the size and type of pipe and related material according to job specifications
  • Test the piping system for leaks

Skills/Knowledge/Abilities

  • A-class Pipefitter requires basic knowledge of field drawings, sketches, and engineering drawings
  • A-class pipefitters must be able to make accurate and precise weld connection fit-ups
  • Be able to read and utilize a tape measure properly
  • Be able to understand and utilize a framing square as it applies to pipefitting tasks
  • Have basic knowledge of how to connect flanged pipe connections using a cross-pattern bolting technique
  • Must know how to properly utilize power tools to prepare pipe for cutting, welding, threading, and bolting

Work Environment

  • Employee may be required to do the following: climbing ladders, scaffolds, structures, etc. above and below ground level; maintaining balance on ladders, scaffolds structures, etc.; reaching in all directions, handling and manipulating objects and materials; coordinating the movements of eyes, hands and fingers to operate tools and equipment; lifting 30 to 50 pounds from ground level, waist level, or overhead; carrying objects, tools, equipment, etc.; standing; sitting; walking; pushing; pulling; bending; kneeling; crouching/squatting; crawling; seeing with or without correction; hearing with or without correction

Tools/Equipment-

  • Employee may be required to provide the following: tool box, pipe wrenches, crescent wrenches, level, torpedo level, square, tri square, plumb bob, channel locks, hammer, center punch, flat or regular screwdriver, Phillips screwdriver, set of combination wrenches, tape, folding rule, wrap around, work gloves, striker, cutting goggles, tip cleaner, rain suit
