Job Profile
The company is seeking a Senior Principal Welding Manufacturing Engineer who will support the manufacturing of weapon systems.
Support the welding operations and production of large, complex assemblies.
Education Level
- Bachelor’s Degree in Weld Engineering, Weld Engineering Technology, Mechanical Engineering, Metallurgy, or related discipline, plus 10 years relevant experience in a manufacturing environment.
- Master of Science Degree in an Engineering Discipline
Work Experience
- Will consider a 2-year degree and 15 years of hands-on experience as well
- Experience in writing work instructions for production operations and rework procedures.
- Experience with Capital Project implementation of new equipment or factory setup.
- Experience with ERP/MRP systems such as Baan or Oracle.
- Previous experience with the digital introduction of equipment for weld parameter tracking.
- Working knowledge and experience with welding processes such as (but not limited to) SAW, GMAW, SMAW, and GTAW welding processes.
- Prior experience with automation, such as cobots or articulating robots
- Defense contractor experience.
License/Certification
- Certification with AWS as a CWI or other relevant certification.
- Bachelor’s degree in Weld Engineering or a similar field and NDT Level II certification.
Duties/Responsibilities
- A background in heavy fabrication and manufacturing is necessary to adjust priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to set up, organize, and populate Manufacturing Engineering production information using Microsoft Office suite applications.
- Ability to understand, interpret, and apply welding specifications.
- Addresses non-conformances and assists in Root Cause and Corrective Action activities.
- Analyzes NDT inspection reports and data to identify the root cause and provide repair plans for production.
- Develops and writes technical documentation, revises existing documentation, and provides input to technical papers or presentations.
- Develops or contributes to the creation of welding standards and specifications.
- Develops processes for the fabrication, testing, weld integrity, accuracy, and delivery of products to our customers.
- Develops weld repair procedures as necessary.
- Develops work documentation, including routings and work instructions, to guide the weld workforce on how to perform welding tasks.
- Prepares and conducts weld engineering analysis of materials and procedures, and engages in weld procedure and performance qualifications.
- Researches and recommends weld equipment and automation solutions to eliminate defects and drive consistency.
- Reviews supplier capability and suitability to provide acceptable product and comply with government specifications.
- Uses knowledge of metallurgy, material weldability, welding robotics, and associated programming to improve existing processes or create new methods to increase delivery cadences.
- Works cross-functionally across multiple teams to support operations.
Skills/Knowledge/Abilities
- Ability to solve complex technical problems that require a professional level of Weld Engineering, design, and engineering knowledge.
- Capable of working with current computer applications, CAD programs, and model manipulation.
- Familiarity with NDT procedure qualification to T9074-AS-GIB-010/271 or similar.
- Familiarity with requirements for fabrication, Welding, and Inspection of Submarine Structures, NAVSEA T9074-AD-GIB-010/1688.
- Familiarity with weld procedure and performance qualification to NAVSEA S9074-AQ-GIB-010/248 or similar.
- Understanding of equipment and technologies relevant to welding and manufacturing in a factory setting.
- Working knowledge of NDT inspection techniques, processes, and interpretation of results.
- Working knowledge of welding consumables and base material specifications
