Education Level

  • 3 years of suggested minimum experience.
  • Knowledge of Formal problem-solving methods, along with experience with financial controls and product costing
  • Previous experience with new products and process introductions, along with a working knowledge of lean manufacturing practices and procedures, is also required

Duties/Responsibilities

  • Accountable for applying sound economic methods to equipment and space utilization to meet design and quality criteria with the lowest expense and consistent with the facility’s financial and non-financial objectives.
  • Analyze and plan workforce utilization, space requirements, and workflow, and design the layout of equipment and workspace for maximum efficiency.
  • Apply statistical methods to estimate future manufacturing requirements and potential.
  • Confer with management, engineering, and other staff regarding manufacturing capabilities, production schedules, and other considerations to facilitate production processes.
  • Confer with planning, production, and design staff concerning product design and tooling to ensure efficient production methods. Confer with vendors to determine product specifications and arrange for the purchase of equipment, materials, or parts, and evaluate products according to specifications and quality standards.
  • Develop, evaluate, and improve manufacturing methods, utilizing knowledge of product design, materials, parts, and fabrication processes, as well as tooling and production equipment capabilities, assembly methods, and quality control standards.
  • Develops solutions for production problems related to materials, processes, and tooling. Supports new products and programs by developing new processes, designing tooling and machinery, and developing production controls.
  • Estimate production times, staffing requirements, and related costs to provide information for management decisions.
  • Plan, direct, and coordinate manufacturing processes.
  • Responsible for the set-up of new equipment, ensuring proper operation of the new equipment, and teaching others the proper use of this equipment.
  • Responsible for supporting the current manufacturing and facilitating the continuous improvement processes associated with the manufacturing methods and processes in the plant facility.

Working Ways-

  • Coordinates new product development and cost reduction activities.
  • Determines manufacturability, investment requirements, product cost, and delivery schedules.
  • Develops processes, methods, tooling, and production controls for new products and programs; supervises their assembly and proofing.
  • Maintains, operates, and troubleshoots manufacturing support software. Plans, justifies, and implements facility changes to produce the forecasted volume of product economically.
  • Manages capital equipment planning and procurement activities.
  • Monitors continuous improvement with regard to scrap reduction and uptime optimization.
  • Participates in and leads Kaizen events. Responsible for Labor Routings, Capacity Planning, TPM, and Cost Estimating.
  • Plans, supervises, and executes work measurement, and defines operations and operation balance to TAKT time.
  • Provides technical assistance to the plant, including Materials, Quality Control, Engineering, and Safety. Supports Lean Manufacturing and Flow Manufacturing. Supports and leads 5S activities.
  • Responsible for Capital justification, CNC/Programming, Tool Design, and Selection.
  • Reviews specifications and bid proposals, and cost estimate requests to establish the feasibility of accepting orders.
  • Supports production to resolve any manufacturing issues.

Skills/Knowledge/Abilities

  • Capable of presenting information to the public in forums, conferences, and visits.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills are needed to influence personnel at all levels of the plant
  • Excellent verbal and written communication and analytical skills.
  • Mental processes oriented to logic, analysis, and vision.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Suite Applications
  • Strong leadership and training skills
  • Structured and systematic.

Work Environment

  • May involve noise, machinery, and safety gear
  • Mostly works in factories or production plants
  • Problem-solving under time and cost pressures
  • Regular hours, but overtime during deadlines
  • Split between office tasks and floor supervision
