Job Profile

The company (Cooper Tire, a Goodyear company) is seeking a Millwright who will install, repair, and maintain equipment in accordance with diagrams, sketches, operation manuals, and specifications.

Work on machinery and mechanical equipment; such as cranes, pumps, engines, motors, pneumatic tools, conveyor systems, production machines, and automotive and construction equipment using hand tools, power tools, and precision-measuring and testing equipment.

Observes mechanical devices in operation and listen to their sounds to locate causes of trouble, dismantles devices to gain access to and remove defective parts; use hoists, cranes, hand tools, and power tools, and examine the form and texture of parts to detect imperfections.

Educational Qualification

• Applicants must have a High School Diploma or GED
• Possess Workforce Center’s Career Readiness Certificate (CRC) with a minimum of Silver Certificate level (we will accept the CRC Silver Certificate or higher in lieu of a high school diploma or GED)

Work Experience

• Successful completion of an accredited apprenticeship program in this specific craft OR 60 months (5 years) total work experience working full time in this specific craft with at least 1-year working full time in an industrial manufacturing environment.
• Must score adequately on the Millwright Proficiency Test
• Working knowledge of the physical properties of common metals required, i.e., strength in shear, tension, compression, hardness, etc.

Duties/Responsibilities

• Adjusting functional parts of devices and control instruments; using hand tools, levels, plumb bobs, and straightedges.
• Inspecting used parts to determine changes in dimensional requirements
• Installing and maintaining piping necessary to supply air, water, steam, and other fluid to all areas of the facility
• Operating milling machine, boring mill, drill press, grinders, etc. in the installation and repair of machinery and equipment
• Performing assigned preventive maintenance according to established procedures
• Responsible for observance of all safety regulations within the plant or applicable to the trade
• Using rules, calipers, micrometers, and other measuring instruments
• Welding metals and having the knowledge of metals that cannot be welded
• Constructing and finishing conveyors, structures, equipment, and machinery from drawings, sketches, and details supplied by others.

Skills/Knowledge/Abilities

• Must have the ability to interpret printed instructions and drawings necessary for the installation of machinery and equipment

Work Environment

• The job is within a heavy industrial environment and you may be required to work within various areas of the factory.
• Dependent upon the area you will work in, the environmental conditions can be hot, cold, dirty, greasy, wet, and noisy.
• The position requires you to work a continuous operation, which will include Saturdays and Sundays.
• Must be able to work any shift assignment, including the night shift.
• The position also requires you to work overtime as needed.
• Additionally, safety is our highest priority and safety procedures/guidelines must be adhered to at all times. This includes safety wear such as hearing protection, eye protection, protective clothing, and steel-toed shoes.
