Millwright is a skilled person who provides mechanical support services and manipulates machinery found in various industries. An industrial mechanic is another name for a millwright. The work includes installing, transferring, fabrication, troubleshooting, overhauling and repairing, and maintaining machinery and equipment. They use specialized tools such as hydraulic bolters or welders. Normally, they work in power plants, factories, and other industrial sites. Millwrights are often involved in comprehensive industrial and mechanical projects.

Educational Qualifications

The education level is as follows-

  • High School Diploma, GED, or Equivalent (minimum)
  • Completion of an accredited millwright certificate program (preferred)
  • Bachelor’s Degree in a recognized millwright program

Work Experience

The hands-on requirements are as follows-

  • Possess an experience as a millwright or similar job
  • Relevant experience in industrial mechanic
  • Possess rigging experience
  • Welding experience (GMAW/SMAW)

Duties/Responsibilities

The functions are as follows-

  • Build solid foundations for machines
  • Compliance with all applicable safety rules
  • Construct/install equipment (tram rails, shafting, conveyors)
  • Determine machine tools and techniques before job completion
  • Disassemble/reassemble the equipment for repair or transportation
  • File/grind machinery parts
  • Interpret engineering specifications, blueprints, and schematics
  • Participate in new staff training
  • Responsible for housekeeping duties (work area)
  • Supervise construction workers
  • Transfer equipment accordingly to avoid safety hazards
  • Travel to multiple construction sites daily
  • Use efficiently hand tools (measuring tools, welding, and brazing equipment)

  • Possess a sense of balance and move over uneven terrain
  • Require bending, lifting, twisting, kneeling, pulling/pushing
  • Wear PPE correctly for working shifts
  • Work at elevated heights in tight/awkward positions
