Mechanic is a skilled professional who generally inspects and repairs machinery, vehicles, and light trucks in day-to-day life. They work as bike mechanics, boat mechanics, car mechanics, diesel mechanics, electric car mechanics, elevator mechanics, hamrah mechanic, plant mechanic, roadside mechanic, and truck mechanic. They also perform monitor inventory, assemble mechanical components, do maintenance inspections, and perform repairs. Mechanics could work both in private companies and run self-mechanic-shop. Basically, their work is manual and needs to use various mechanical tools regularly.

Educational Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED (minimum)
  • Associate’s Degree (advanced)
  • Technical Degree (preferred)

Duties/Responsibilities

  • Assist in training new employees
  • Calibrate meters as per requirement
  • Check regularly constructing, maintaining, and testing mechanical equipment
  • Diagnose/repair electrical systems and circuitry
  • Execute Lockout/Tagout procedures
  • Follow all safety procedures
  • Inspect trucks and trailers
  • Keep shop equipment operating
  • Operate transportation equipment
  • Perform general repairs
  • Perform manual lifting
  • Perform preventative maintenance on required equipment
  • Perform welding and fabrication work
  • Plan all routine work procedures
  • Process paperwork after assigned job completion
  • Purchase parts and supplies as needed
  • Reassemble mechanical components
  • Repair pumps, piping systems, valves, and meters
  • Report safety violations to the supervisor
  • Troubleshoot/repair hydraulic systems and components
  • Perform all other duties as assigned from time to time

Abilities/Skills

  • Ability to complete assigned maintenance projects timely
  • Ability to perform essential mathematical/measurement functions
  • Ability to recognize potentially hazardous situations
  • Ability to troubleshoot all areas of mechanical malfunctions
  • Ability to work overtime as required
  • Able to handle multiple tasks
  • Be a computer literate
  • Good mechanical and electrical aptitudes
  • Good welding and fabrication skills
  • Good written/verbal communication skills
  • Hand and power tools demonstrated competency
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area
  • Maintenance/inspection requirements knowledge
  • Possess problem-solving skills
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license

Work Environment

  • Occasionally required to lift moderately heavy to heavy objects
  • Overtime may be required and is anticipated
  • Potentially work in a stressful environment
  • Regularly wear Personal protective equipment
  • Required to carry a company-provided cell phone/pager
  • Respond/address callouts and emergencies outside of regular business hours
  • Typically require overnight travel
  • Work in rotating shifts
  • Work may be exposure to extremes in temperature and humidity

Physical Requirements

  • Climb vertical ladders up to 50 feet
  • Pass a respirator physical and respirator fit test
  • Require sitting, walking, pushing, lifting, pulling, and climbing
  • Require to exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, 20 pounds of force frequently, and 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects
  • Tolerate heat in an industrial production plant environment
  • Work in confined spaces such as boilers, tanks, and manholes
