Job Profile
The company is looking for an Advanced Manufacturing Engineer who will support continuing improvement projects, including process improvements, cost reductions, work cell layout, inventory reduction, etc.
Responsible for developing manufacturing processes, including fabrication methods and procedures, material usage, work routing, and troubleshooting manufacturing problems.
Supports tooling, materials, and equipment justification for cost reductions.
Organize, plan, and integrate new products into existing manufacturing cells.
May direct others as part of project coordination.
Education Level
- Minimum BS in Engineering (required)
Work Experience
- 2 to 7 years of work experience in manufacturing engineering, design engineering, production supervision, or a closely related field in the metal fabricating industry.
- Must demonstrate advanced skill in at least three areas of the following –
- Product Documentation and Control,
- Weld and CNC fixture design,
- Manufacturing Equipment programming (cutting, forming, punching, welding, and robotics)
- Welding
- Steel surface preparation and finishing
- Packaging
- Lean production
Duties/Responsibilities
- Accountability: Accepts responsibility and accountability for both the strategic planning and the successful implementation of all projects/programs/duties as outlined in this job description. Advises the supervisor of concerns, problems, and progress of work on time. Demonstrates a sound balance between quality and quantity of work while maintaining a sense of urgency toward completion. Deadlines are met.
- Active participation in conducting I.E. projects for feasibility studies, cost estimating, or new process development.
- Communication: Expresses thoughts clearly, both orally and in writing, using good grammar. Presents concise, well-organized reports. Listen to understand input, feedback, and concerns. Provides complete information in an open, honest, and straightforward manner. Responds promptly and positively to questions and requests.
- Conduct value analysis studies to improve materials, processes equipment needs and make appropriate recommendations to the supervisor, prepare data incidental to requests for Capital Equipment, conduct manufacturing cost studies and estimates, as requested.
- Continual Improvement and Problem Resolution: Identifies and communicates suggestions for work improvements. Uses technical/analytical abilities to ensure existing work practices are the most efficient and cost-effective possible. Performs root-cause analysis and implements viable, permanent solutions to problems. Works with both internal and external customers to develop solutions that meet company-wide needs and objectives. Applies a sense of urgency to resolve problems or create opportunities that will increase productivity and create value. Shares best practices with other employees across the business.
- Determine tooling requirements and method of production and initiate, if necessary, proper procedures to acquire them.
- Ethics & Work Standards: Maintain the highest ethical and work standards, while promoting the same attributes in co-workers and others. Ensure that all business activities – with both internal and external customers – are performed with a professional demeanor and that all participants are held accountable to this high standard.
- Evaluate existing methods of operations, routings, processes, tooling, etc., and recommend or initiate changes or modifications to update and achieve optimum operating efficiencies and manufacturing economies.
- Meet with and assist Cell Coordinators and other staff personnel in matters related to assigned manufacturing engineering functions, e.g., product design changes, standardization of parts and tooling, budgets, cost reduction, quality control, plant layout, material movement, packaging, etc.
- Prepare bill of materials/special jobs and coordinate with Purchasing and Material Control to optimize material usage.
- Teamwork/Relationships: Works with other employees willingly and in a spirit of cooperation and teamwork. Supports cooperation. Demonstrates a commitment to the entire business and is supportive of all initiatives (company and departmental) to help grow Vehicle Service Group’s business in the U.S. and abroad. Cooperates fully with others to achieve organizational goals. Embraces a positive outlook.
Skills/Knowledge/Abilities
- Must be a “hands-on” oriented individual comfortable working and communicating among metal fabrication professionals.
- Skills in ergonomics, time and motion studies, clear writing and verbal communication, cost estimating, lean concepts, computer-aided drawing, measurement system analysis, SPC, advanced analytical techniques, and negotiation are required.
