Job Profile
The company is recruiting a Journeyman Mechanic who will support manufacturing in maintaining equipment and tools needed in daily operations.
Performs routine as well as emergency mechanical and electrical repairs including preventative maintenance programs, troubleshooting equipment problems, repairing equipment, and installation of equipment.
Maintains recordkeeping as required to maintain the integrity of work performed.
Educational Qualification
- Applicants should have a High School Diploma or Equivalent
- Completion of a 4-year apprenticeship program certified by the U.S. Department of Labor
Work Experience
- Possess work-related experience (a plus)
Duties/Responsibilities
- Assists other maintenance team members in meeting department requirements. Serves as a resource to production, engineering, and other plant personnel.
- Completes appropriate paperwork, machine documentation, and preventative maintenance records.
- Diagnoses machine malfunctions and difficulties, then plan and implement actions necessary to return equipment to operation and prevent future breakdowns.
- Ensure proper handling, labeling, packaging, storage, and disposal of hazardous and regulated wastes including used oil and aerosol can waste.
- Fabricates parts with or without sketches and prints using a lathe, mill, drill press, and welder. Operates testing equipment, power tools, hand tools, torches, welders, and precision measuring instruments.
- Installs, repairs, rebuilds and maintains precision machine and production tools and equipment.
- Leads machine tool and processing equipment installation and relocation efforts. Performs erecting, leveling, fitting, and aligning actions necessary for safe and effective installation.
- Maintains and improves knowledge and skill requirements in all maintenance-required trade areas.
- Maintains user knowledge of tools, testing equipment, measuring instruments, conveyance, and material handling equipment. (Included in #11)
- Performs all job functions in a safe, healthful and environmentally conscious manner, abiding by all health, safety, and environmental rules and regulations as outlined in the company handbook.
- Performs skilled operations such as fitting and aligning of bearings, spindles, and shafts. Fits, aligns, and calibrates measuring devices and feeding mechanisms.
- Reads and interprets blueprints, schematics, and machine manuals in order to perform safe and effective repairs.
- Rebuilds machines and overhauls troublesome components. (Included in #1)
- Routinely contacts suppliers or manufacturers on part information, repair issues, improvement needs, and shipping instructions.
- Safely operates company vehicles, conveyance, and material handling equipment.
- Troubleshoots basic electrical and PLC problems.
- Uses PC to update databases and retrieve information.

- Must be able to read and interpret mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic schematics and have a strong understanding of the systems
- Must be able to work with a minimum of supervision and guidance.
- Must obtain and maintain a valid powered industrial truck operator permit and the State of Michigan Driver’s License.
Work Conditions
- Work may involve irregular work schedules, exposure to chemicals, the high voltage from electrostatic equipment, loud noise, and hazardous waste.
- Requires bending, heavy lifting, reaching, and working in cramped and confined spaces.
