Educational Qualification
- The applicants should have a High School Degree or Equivalent
Work Experience
- Possess experience setting up and operating manual lathes
- Experience working with the metric system, including the use of metric measuring tools and reading/understanding of metric drawings
Duties/Responsibilities
- Independently sets up and machines repair parts for high-speed rotating equipment. Utilizes job skills, repair-specific training, and experience to determine fixturing and tooling needs, as well as cutting parameters for each individual part. Reads and interprets technical documents such as drawings, technical bulletins, and written instructions to identify part-specific machining requirements. Observes and monitors the machining process and re-adjust fixturing, tooling, or cutting parameters if necessary
- Inspects all repair parts for additional damages such as corrosion, fractures, or heat-effected zones that may have been overlooked in the inspection or were revealed during machining. Repairs additional damages using standard repair procedures as necessary. Points out any and all potential safety-relevant additional damages to the supervisory personnel to ensure the damages are repaired within limits for safe equipment operation.
- Maintains a clean and organized work environment. Follows all applicable QHSE rules and regulatory requirements
- Operates a spinning lathe to install claddings and rings into repair parts
- Reviews and completes required documentation and administrative paperwork in a timely manner
- Sets up own measuring tools and checks pertinent dimensions. Responsible for own quality
- Uses other manual machine tools such as milling machines or drill presses, as well as hand tools to manufacture features such as grooves or cutouts. Drills for and installs rivets in centripetal pumps
- Fulfills additional duties as assigned by supervisor.
Preferred Qualifications
- 3 to 5 years of experience in manual machining of large diameter, stainless steel precision parts using engine lathes
- Adaptable to changing work demands and desire to learn new skills
- Completed a 3 to 4-year formal apprenticeship as a machinist with a specialization in lathe machining
- Detail oriented
- Experience in evaluating and identifying part failures such as corrosion, erosion, cavitation, or fatigue in stainless steel parts.
- Good social skills and ability to work in a team
- Self-motivated, dependable, and able to work with little direction
Skills/Knowledge/Abilities
- Reading and interpreting documents such as safety rules, inspection reports, procedures, and manuals.
- Performing calculations and applying mathematical concepts
