Job Profile
The company is seeking a Mechanic B who will diagnose mechanical and minor electrical problems associated with all equipment in a manufacturing environment.
Responsible for installation, maintenance, and repair of all equipment concerned with plant operation, services, and buildings including storage and inventory of spare parts.
Use basic hand and specialty tools for repair equipment in accordance with established safety procedures
Educational Qualification
- Applicants should have completed a High School Education or GED
- Must take and pass (within allowable limits) a mechanical and electrical aptitude questionnaire.
Work Experience
- Possess previous related experience (mandatory)
Duties/Responsibilities
- Assist in dismantling electrical transformers and lighting fixtures into position.
- Assists in the replacement of faulty switches, sockets, and other elements of electrical systems.
- Cleans, lubricates, and adjusts functional parts of mechanical devices as necessary.
- Communicates problems encountered throughout the shift to the Plant Engineer.
- Develops simple types of experimental and operating equipment.
- Ensures electrical work conforms with requirements of local building and safety codes.
- Examines mechanical equipment to diagnose the trouble. Disassembles, repairs/replace parts, and maintains machinery and mechanical equipment, such as motors, pumps, conveyors, belts, fans, etc.
- Has operating knowledge of all production and service equipment
- Inspects and tests electrical equipment, lighting, signal, communication, and power circuits.
- Inspects completed repairs.
- Installs lighting fixtures and replaces bulbs and ballast.
- Isolates defects in wiring, switches, motors, and other electrical equipment using testing instruments such as an ammeter, ohmmeter, voltmeter, testing lamp, or growler.
- Maintains a clean and orderly work area throughout the shift.
- Minor electrical repairs including 3-phase, 440, and PLC, new installations of equipment, replacement and testing electrical circuits, equipment, and appliances.
- Operates any equipment needed to perform the job.
- Performs all work in accordance with established safety procedures, including lock-out/tag-out.
- Performs carpenter, plumbing, and painter-related work.
- Performs other related duties to contribute to the success of the operation as assigned by supervision.
- Read blueprints and wiring diagrams for the installation and repair of equipment and the facility.
- Repair parts that require minor machine work and welding. Uses gas and electric welding equipment.
- Requisitions for new parts and equipment.
- Uses precision measuring tools/devices, hand tools, and testing instruments.
Skills/Knowledge/Abilities
Communication Skills-
- Ability to express through verbal or visual aid and able to write numbers and time in clear, understandable messages.
- Must be able to read, write and understand Basic English.
- Able to communicate effectively, get along with coworkers and management and deal effectively and professionally under pressure.
Mathematical Skills-
- Basic mathematical ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide multi-digit numbers including fractions.
- Ability to perform these operations using units of American weight, measurement, and volume.
Mechanical Skills-
- A high degree of knowledge of equipment and aptitude for understanding mechanical systems through formal training or education.
- Be able to perform repairs (including electrical).
- Uses or makes special attachments when necessary.
- Certifies to operate forklifts.
- Trained in Lockout/Tagout procedures.
Reasoning Ability-
- The job requires making decisions based on established guidelines regarding running or shutting down defective work and operational problems/difficulties of all kinds.
- Plans repair procedures for the most efficient accomplishment of the job at hand.
- Ability to apply commonsense understanding to carry detailed and simple written or oral instructions.
- Ability to deal with problems involving concrete variables in standardized situations.
- Uses a high degree of ingenuity in solving all types of maintenance problems.
Physical Demands
- Frequent bending, stooping, kneeling, and reaching
- Frequent lifting up to 10 pounds, occasionally will lift and carrying up to 40 pounds, and occasionally assisted lifting and carrying of up to 100 pounds
- Frequent pushing/pulling up to 40 pounds
- Frequent repetitive finger movement
- Minimal 8.0-hour shifts/rotating shift schedule
- Required to stand and walk continually
Work Environment
- Constant dry/dusty (paper) environment
- Constant noise levels above 85 dB
- Constant work around machinery and forklifts
- May experience temperature extremes based on the outside temperature
- Steel-toed footwear, safety glasses, and hearing protection are required
