Job Profile
The company is looking for a Motor Mechanic who will repair various kinds of electro-mechanical equipment.
Educational Qualification
- High School Diploma or GED
Work Experience
- 1 to 3 months of related experience or training
- Certification from a Technical school helpful
- An equivalent combination of education and experience (desired)
Duties/Responsibilities
- Assist other mechanics or other shop personnel in skilled or non-skilled duties as directed by the supervisor or shop manager.
- Clean electro-mechanical equipment assemblies as needed using various methods and steps, including but not limited to parts washers/steamers, caustic tanks, glass beaders, etc.
- Complete the required paperwork for each job accurately and on a timely basis.
- Disassemble electro-mechanical equipment noting parts identification, configuration, and condition.
- Keep the work area clean and organized.
- Lift, tighten, adjust, or secure heavy objects to perform work duties.
- Measure for or note proper replacement parts. Correctly requisition needed items from storekeeper as approved by supervisor.
- Observe all safety procedures and policies and use proper protective equipment (especially eye, and ear protection and steel toe shoes/boots, gloves, etc.)
- Operate specialized repair and testing equipment and other equipment as needed.
- Read job cards to determine: job status, work authorizations/limitations, estimate, description of problems, or expected serviceability.
- Replace or repair worn or defective mechanical or electro-mechanical assemblies, including but not limited to bearings, brushes, brush holders, motor leads, gears, seals, impellers, mechanical switches, brakes, clutches, clutch rotors, tachs, fans, end shields, etc.
- Report all injuries, near misses, and accidents immediately to a supervisor.
- Retest reassembled electro-mechanical equipment for proper output and operation.
- Test electro-mechanical equipment to troubleshoot known or suspected problems using various methods (ac or dc).
- All other duties as assigned.
Skills/Knowledge/Abilities
- Ability to add, and subtract two-digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10s and 100s. Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume, and distance. Must be able to read a measuring tape.
- Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out simple one or two-step instructions. Ability to deal with standardized situations with only occasional or no variables.
- Ability to read a limited number of two and three-syllable words and to recognize similarities and differences between words and between series of numbers. Ability to print and speak simple sentences.
- Ability to speak clearly and persuasively in positive or negative situations; listens and gets clarification; responds well to questions; participates in meetings.
- Ability to write clearly and informatively; present numerical data effectively; able to read and interpret written information.
- Mechanical aptitude is required.
- Prior experience working as a Mechanic is desired.
- To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of basic computer applications.
Work Environment
- Occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts; fumes or airborne particles; and risk of electrical shock.
- The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud.
Physical Demands
- Regularly required to stand and use hands to finger, handle or feel
- Frequently required to walk; reach with hands and arms and climb or balance
- Occasionally required to sit; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl and talk or hear
- Must frequently lift or move up to 300 pounds with mechanical assistance.
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, and the ability to adjust focus.
