Job Profile

The company is looking for a Journeyman Heavy Equipment Mechanic who will perform major servicing and repairs on a variety of mechanical, electrical, electronic, powertrain, and hydraulic systems for vehicles, on and off-road mining equipment, and on-road dump trucks and concrete mixer trucks.

Educational Qualification

• Applicants should have a High School Diploma or GED
• First Aid and CPR Certification (a plus)

Work Experience

• Possess a journey status with 5+ years of experience in the maintenance and repair of mining equipment, heavy-duty diesel, and medium-fleet automotive
• Experience in welding and fabrication
• Experience troubleshooting and repairing hydraulic systems, pneumatic systems, electrical systems, chassis, and power-train systems

Duties/Responsibilities

• Diagnose and repair all types of gas and diesel equipment, including, but not limited to, excavators, dozers, off-road trucks, wheel loaders, water/lube trucks, service trucks, pickups, dump trucks/trailers, mixer trucks, and other support equipment.
• Maintain service, maintenance, and repair records
• Make emergency field repairs to dump trucks and concrete mixer trucks as needed
• Perform welding and fabrication on mobile and stationary plant equipment as needed
• Prepare work orders and order parts in the SAP business system
• Provide technical assistance, direction, and guidance to other shop employees. Assist in the training of other shop employees to perform tasks efficiently and effectively.
• Repair and maintain shop tools and machinery
• Repair and overhaul engines, transmissions, differentials, PTOs, and axle assemblies
• Safely perform repairs in the field during inclement weather
• Troubleshoot, repair, and replace ignition systems, fuel systems, hydraulic systems, lighting systems, electrical/computer control systems, radio systems, and ABS brake system

Skills/Knowledge/Abilities

• Ability to safely operate vehicles and equipment to test and troubleshoot for proper operation before and after maintenance
• Ability to work in a team environment and independently
• Class A CDL with HazMat and Tanker endorsement (preferred, but not required)
• Computer experience entering data for preparing work orders and purchasing parts
• Knowledge of industrial and shop safety rules, procedures, and equipment
• The position is subject to random drug and alcohol testing
• Possess own Journeyman level hand tools necessary to perform the functions of the job.

Physical Requirements

• Must be able to remain in a standing position for extended periods of time, lift arms above shoulder level, bend and stoop repeatedly, able to move heavy objects fifty pounds or more long distances.
• Work is performed inside a shop and outside in all weather conditions

• Some positions require FMCSA-regulated ongoing drug and alcohol testing.
