Job Profile

Bechtel is seeking a Lead Field Welding Engineer to join the Pluto Train 2 Project. Who will do the following functions-

Leads construction engineers in a broad range of construction engineering work within a specific engineering discipline for a particular area of the project.

Provides engineering assistance to Superintendents, directs assigned personnel in meeting cost and time schedules, verifies materials, equipment, and quality, and assures results meet design requirements.

On a large project, functions as a lead discipline engineer, coordinating related discipline activities and interfacing with other areas/disciplines on the job site.

On a small to a medium-sized project, performs the duties of a lead engineer in an area, coordinating and directing a variety of disciplines, or performs the duties as a Project Field Engineer or Project Field Quality Control Engineer coordinating activities related to the operation of the assigned operating section of the job site.

Educational Qualification

  • Applicants should have a Bachelor’s Degree in Welding Engineering or equivalent

Work Experience

  • Possess Grade 26 Minimum 14 years of industry experience in welding and NDE relating to large-scale construction projects, and a minimum of 10 years of Bechtel field Welding Engineer experience in implementation of Bechtel’s welding and NDE program.
  • Grade 27 Minimum 16 years of industry experience in welding and NDE relating to large-scale construction projects, and a minimum of 12 years of Bechtel field Welding Engineer experience in implementation of Bechtel’s welding and NDE program.
  • Must have the training and experience to take and pass Bechtel Level II VT NDE, with experience in additional NDE methods
  • Previous supervisory experience within the welding discipline

Duties/Responsibilities

  • Able to work extended work schedules and night shifts as required to support the project execution plans and schedules.
  • Demonstrates a personal commitment to Bechtel and project safety culture
  • Implement and maintain the Bechtel Field Welding program.
  • Provide specialized welding engineering support for construction supervisors, field engineers, and craft to ensure construction complies with all code, project specifications, and Bechtel’s procedures and standards.
  • Provide technical expertise for ASME, API, and AWS or other code-designed and fabricated items.
  • Provides leadership and takes personal accountability for site safety, environmental, and health program.
  • Responsible to implement and maintain welder and weld tracking program to ensure all welds are properly documented and NDE is performed per project requirements.
  • Responsible to implement, manage and monitor the welder qualification lab to ensure the qualification of skilled welders, issuing each welder a unique ID, and maintaining welder qualification and maintenance records
  • Responsible to manage pre- and post-weld heat treatment programs whether self-performed by Bechtel or subcontractors.
  • Responsible to manage the NDE subcontract including scheduling and coordination with the construction site and subcontractors to ensure NDE is performed with the least impact and cost to the project and client.
  • Responsible to manage the rod rooms and rod room attendants, to ensure all weld filler materials are procured and controlled in compliance with Bechtel standards and Code requirements.
  • Perform other duties as required by Bechtel management.

Skills/Knowledge/Abilities

  • Computer literate in word processing, spreadsheet, and database applications.
  • Excellent communication and problem-solving ability.
  • Familiarity with Bechtel Standard Applications (BSAPs), including Teamwork’s, INFO Works or Aconex, BPS or DSCS, PTR or Unifier, and other automation tools used on Bechtel projects.
  • Intermediate communication skills
  • Intermediate knowledge of cost management including estimating and forecast development.
  • Intermediate understanding of production management including scheduling.
  • Must be able to climb ladders and be able to handle the wearing of protective clothing from contamination.
  • Must be computer literate in Microsoft word processing, spreadsheet, and database applications.
  • Must have a valid Australian Driver’s License
  • Must have the right to work and remain in Australia
  • Strong interpersonal and teamwork skills
  • Working knowledge of applicable industry codes and standards is required.
  • Working knowledge of current industry quality construction procedures and standards.
