Job Profile

The company is seeking a Piping Estimator who will be responsible for the generation of accurate and timely cost estimates for assigned projects.

Deliver properly organized estimates, budgets, and schedules, while managing Aecon’s risk.

The position will report to the Senior Estimator.

Educational Qualification

  • Applicants should have a Diploma/Degree in Construction/Piping

Work Experience

  • Possess prior piping estimating/operational experience (an asset)

Duties/Responsibilities

  • Accountable for the accuracy and completeness of tender submissions
  • Analyzes documents, specifications, proposals, and addendums in preparation for pricing
  • Assists with Prequalification submissions, RFQ’s and RFI’s as required
  • Collects data and reports on established business Key Performance Indicators
  • Drives Estimating process/procedure compliance and consistency
  • Drives positive relationships and serves as a contact with key subcontractors
  • Formulates all costs for tender submission – labour, equipment, material, rentals, and subcontracts
  • Incorporates/complies with Aecon’s risk management policies and procedures
  • Maintains Estimating data systems to ensure they are kept up-to-date
  • Maintains files and correspondence on active and completed estimates
  • Obtains input from Operations staff as appropriate
  • Obtains pricing from suppliers and incorporates it into the estimate
  • Oversees the distribution of appropriate documentation appropriately upon award of the project
  • Performs any estimate-related oral or written communications with clients
  • Performs Post Bid/Post Project Analysis completion and that associated learning and communication take place
  • Performs quantity take-off from construction drawings
  • Protects all forms of proprietary information
  • Provide estimating support to field staff
  • Reviewing project site prior to price preparation

Skills/Knowledge/Abilities

  • Ability to read and understand construction drawings and contract documents
  • Ability to work accurately, and effectively under pressure
  • Ability to work with others as a team
  • Adaptable to a flexible work schedule when required to meet deadlines
  • Good knowledge of job cost fundamentals and basic accounting/reporting principles an asset
  • Self-motivated with excellent organizational skills
  • Strong communication skills – oral and written
  • Strong computer skills – MS Excel/Word/Project, P6, and estimating software (Accubid)
  • Thorough knowledge of contract language/Terms and Conditions/Bonding, etc.
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to travel as required
