Job Profile

The company is hiring a Track Welder who will be responsible for welding and repairing steel and managing track components.

Additionally, the incumbent performs other activities, including maintaining tracks.

Educational Qualification

  • Applicants should have a High School Diploma or GED equivalent
  • Post-secondary Trade Education

Work Experience

  • Experience and training in Mechanical
  • Experience in similar working conditions
  • Federal and provincial welding qualification or equivalent experience
  • Operator qualifications and experience
  • Valid Driver’s License, Class 3 in Quebec or equivalent in other provinces

Duties/Responsibilities

  • Assist in replacing and repairing items such as power-operated switches and insulated joints
  • Clean up after work completion
  • Clear brush, vegetation, snow, and litter from the railroad right-of-way
  • Complete work, material inventory, and inspections reports
  • Comply with track safety standards, operating rules, and safe work procedures
  • Correct deviations in track surface, alignment, and gauge
  • Establish and maintain drainage
  • Inspect track work on completion and approve the track
  • Install and repair street and railroad crossings
  • Maintain train operating restrictions in alignment with track standards
  • Remove and replace defective ties, rail spikes, and anchors
  • Sort used track material for loading, which may be loaded by hand
  • Unload and assist in unloading ballasts
  • Unload and distribute track material
  • Use stick electrodes and Flux Cored Arc Welding (FCAW)
  • Utilize high-frequency tools
  • Weld and grind carbon steel and manganese track components

  • Knowledge of signals or Rail Operating Rules
  • Collaborates with others and shares information
  • Demonstrates active listening
  • Sets direction and inspires others

Working Conditions

  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds (22 kg) and up to 70 pounds (32 kg) occasionally
  • Ability to perform repetitive physical activities
  • Ability to use various common and specialized hand tools
  • Ability to work outdoors in various types of weather conditions with regular exposure to dust, pollen, noise, and vibrations
  • Frog and switch welder
  • Must be able to utilize a respirator for some tasks
  • Must be able to work outside the headquarters location, as needed
  • Must be available to work shifts, extensive hours, sometimes away from home, and occasional overtime
  • Must have good eye-hand coordination and grasping
