Job Profile
The company is searching for a Welding and Joining Staff Engineer with experience in developing and implementing fusion-based welding technologies including, but not limited to, RSW, MIG, TIG, FSW, and Laser for thin gauge automotive sheet metals such as Aluminum and Steel alloys.
Educational Qualification
- Applicants should have a Ph.D. or Master in Welding, Metallurgy, Materials Science, Mechanical Engineering, or a related technical field from a university/college
Work Experience
- Possess 5+ years of practical knowledge in welding and joining technologies
- 2 to 3 years of research and development work experience with materials science
- Experience in CATIA V6 is a MUST
Duties/Responsibilities
- Apply knowledge of welding, joining, and brazing to solve new product design and manufacturing issues
- Conduct root cause analysis and problem-solving methods
- Define process requirements, specification details, engineering drawing details
- Design and implement welding/joining procedures for future model launches and process improvement
- Develop internal weld/joint testing and evaluation programs with cross-functional teams to support application development and CAE models
- Develop mechanical joining processes including Self-piercing Rivets, Flow Form, Bolt, Rivnuts, etc.
- Develop welding and joining processes integrated with structural adhesives
- Provide technical support and monitoring processes to ensure that joining methods are satisfactory and quality product is delivered on time to the manufacturing team
- Support plant manufacturing and engineering staff during new program launches
Skills/Knowledge/Abilities
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to teach a technically diverse audience using formal and informal techniques
- Extensive knowledge of physical and welding metallurgy in the area of Aluminum and Steel alloys
- Familiarity with welding of low carbon and high strength sheet steels, and welding codes/specifications, particularly for automotive applications, would be a plus
- Proven success working within an interdisciplinary team
- Working knowledge of mechanical engineering, structural engineering, failure of materials, and experimental design
Other Requirements
- This position is not eligible for CPT or OPT.
