Job Profile

The company is seeking a Manufacturing Engineer who will help coordinate and assist with production welding projects within Manufacturing Technology.

Projects may vary from welding procedure development, equipment set-up and programming, quality improvement, cost reduction, and specification of Capital Expense equipment purchases.

Educational Qualification

  • Applicants should have a Bachelor’s Degree in Welding, Mechanical, Electrical, or other related Engineering field from a college/university

Work Experience

  • Possess 3 years or more of experience in the core competencies of Welding Fabrication
  • Experience reading and interpreting blueprint and CAD Drawings including Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerances (GD&T)
  • Experience using Microsoft Excel to analyze operational metrics

Duties/Responsibilities

  • Actively lead teams in problem-solving to drive results and improvements through the use of structural team problem-solving techniques such as A3 and Four-Step Problem Solving.
  • Adapt to changes; shows commitment to change and continuous improvement
  • Assist in the day-to-day resolution of problems arising on the production floor.
  • Communicate effectively with all levels of the organization, most notably, internal customers and suppliers.
  • Create project plans and successfully manage/oversee projects through completion in a timely fashion.
  • Demonstrate a high regard for people by treating them with dignity, respect, fairness, and consistency.
  • Demonstrate commitment to meeting and supporting departmental, divisional, and company goals/objectives/strategies.
  • Demonstrate good report preparation, presentation, and listening skills.
  • Lead in the investigation and implementation of new welding technology/CapEX Projects to improve the cost and efficiency of producing products.
  • Perform hands-on welding procedure development using procedure testing practices, visual, NDT, and destructive testing methods.
  • Perform set-up and programming of automated welding process equipment including robotic welders. Ability to learn Cloos and Fanuc controller programming and functionality.
  • Provide written welding procedure specifications and documents, including WPS, quality control documents, and work instructions.
  • Set a good example of behavior, attitude, and teamwork both within and between departments.
  • Support and lead projects in the welding fabrication processes using the latest industry techniques to ensure processes are safe, efficient, and effective. Use concepts that incorporate Lean, 5-S, and flow-line concepts.
  • Updating files and programs that support manufacturing processes because of design engineering changes, including routings, BOMs, prints, and machine programs.

Skills/Knowledge/Abilities

  • Excellent communication skills, written and verbal, to clearly present ideas in a variety of forums.
  • Familiarity with Robotic programming and its application in welding and fabrication processes.
  • Familiarity with Tool Design and Tool Building, and their application with welding and fabrication processes.
  • Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing principles and demonstrated implementation of the lean principles and key performance indicators.
  • Technical knowledge of welding processes, equipment, support services, and other relevant manufacturing activities.
  • Working knowledge of industrial welding processes including GMAW, GTAW, RSW, and Stud Welding.

Physical Demands

  • Bending – Frequent bending and crouching are required to perform a variety of tasks.
  • Carrying – Frequent carrying of items ranging in weight from 5 lbs. to 25 lbs.
  • Environment – A working environment that of a manufacturing/fabrication company including the use of heavy industrial equipment, and arc welding machines.
  • Handling – Continuous handling of parts and tools to perform a variety of tasks.
  • Lifting – Frequent lifting of items ranging in weight from 5 lbs. to 40 lbs.
  • Pulling – Occasional use of an electric hand truck and pulling to move parts a moderate distance.
  • Pushing – Occasional use of an electric hand truck and pushing to move parts a moderate distance.
  • Reaching – Continuous full range of motion from above the shoulders to below the knees to reach for items.
  • Standing – Most tasks are performed in a standing position.
  • Walking – Moderate walking of distances up to 1 mile around the S&C Campus.
