Job Profile

The company is seeking a Plant Mechanic who will be responsible for the daily maintenance and repair of the ready-mix concrete plant as well as other miscellaneous work that needs to be performed including but not limited to the electrical systems, feeders, screens, conveyors, etc.

Educational Qualification

  • Applicants should have a High School Diploma or GED

Work Experience

  • Possess 3 years of experience as a mechanic in the ready-mix/concrete industry (preferred)
  • Welding and cutting experience is necessary

Duties/Responsibilities

  • Comply with all environmental, health, and safety policies and procedures, and requirements
  • Coordinate ordering with purchasing team parts from approved vendors
  • Diagnose problems and perform mechanical repairs and maintenance to ready mix plant machinery, including but not limited to batch plants, motors, conveyors, electrical equipment, etc.
  • Drive to various facilities to perform maintenance and repair tasks. This may include work at various aggregate and asphalt plants.
  • Inspect, service, and report the condition of machinery needing repair; maintain a service log
  • Must always wear personal protective equipment (PPE) in designated areas
  • Operate fixed and mobile equipment as necessary; use loaders to move and lift parts into place
  • Read and interpret technical manuals
  • Rebuild or fabricate parts and repair electrical equipment
  • Understand and comply with OSHA/MSHA rules and regulations.
  • Utilize a variety of hand tools to repair, adjust, and dismantle equipment being repaired or installed
  • Other duties as assigned by the manager.

Skills/Knowledge/Abilities

  • Ability to operate loaders, forklifts, man-lift, etc.
  • Familiarity with OSHA regulations
  • Knowledge and experience in the operation and maintenance of conveyors, silos, chillers, water pumps, and other types of fixed equipment used in the industry
  • Must be able to wear all required personal protective equipment including safety glasses, respiratory protection, safety belts, gloves, etc.
  • Must be able to work in a heavy industrial environment with exposure to weather elements, dust, noise, etc.
  • Provide some tools used in ready-mix facility maintenance
  • Some work will be performed in confined spaces and at extreme heights
  • Strong communication, written, and oral skills
  • Valid driver’s license and safe driving record
  • Willing to get crane certified through CalPortland
  • Work independently and lead a team
  • Work overtime and weekends as business needs dictate

Physical Requirements

  • standing, walking, kneeling, climbing, crouching, stooping, bending, feeling, balancing, sitting, and lifting up to 100 lbs.

  • Successful candidates must submit to a post-offer pre-employment physical examination, drug/alcohol screen, and background check.
  • Some positions require FMCSA-regulated ongoing drug and alcohol testing.
